<P>　　鬣蜥科Agaminae<BR>　　全世界鬣蜥科有300多种，分隶于34属。它们广泛分布在旧大陆地区(欧洲、亚洲和非洲以及澳洲地区。其栖息环境包括:沙漠、树林、热带雨林等等。 <BR>　　鬣蜥科的蜥蜴一般都有相当大的头，很长的脚及尾巴。尾巴通常不易断，也不会自割和再生。身体全长约在12公分～110公分之间。全身均覆满小鳞片。这些小鳞片一般均有棱，而且在小鳞片间会有一些刺状或脊状突起的鳞片。瞳孔圆型。舌头厚且短，前端完整或有微缺。 <BR>　　绝大多数的种类均是卵生。主要都以昆虫为食。少数种类兼食植物，而极少数专吃植物(均是大型的种类)。雄性的个体一般均有自己的领域。对入侵者，雄性个体都会以独特的韵律作「伏地挺身」或「点头」的动作。 </P>

<P>　　美洲鬣蜥科Iguanidae <BR>　　本科只分布于美洲、斐济和东加等地的热带至亚热带地区，部份是树栖性，部份是地栖性。沿背常具齿状凸起。舌厚而多肉，舌尖微微分叉。多为素食性，为小至大型的蜥蜴都有，雄性通常有较鲜艳的体色。环颈蜥、古巴变色龙、绿鬣蜥、双冠蜥、加拉巴戈陆鬣蜥、加拉巴戈海鬣蜥...都属于本科。其中最常被饲养作为宠物的就是绿鬣蜥。 </P>
